Practice sun safety when relaxing by the pool!

Summer’s right around the corner and that means that it’s once again time for cookouts, baseball games and swimming.  If you live at our Steeplechase apartments in Knoxville, TN you’ll probably be spending quite a bit of time at the pool this summer.

Make sure you apply a broad spectrum SPF sunscreen at least fifteen minutes before going out into the sun and remember to reapply sunscreen hourly, or after swimming. Wearing a broad brim hat will help protect your face and neck from damaging UV rays.  Sunglasses are another must have if you plan on spending a lot of time poolside this summer.  Sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB radiation are ideal.  If possible, try to avoid spending too much time at the pool between the hours of 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.  This is when the sun’s UV rays are at their highest and most damaging.  Finally, be aware that any medications you may be taking could cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun.  So ask your doctor before starting any new prescription regimens.

Following these five tips will help keep your skin safe this summer.
